Rights and Responsibilities

We respect your right to:

  • Receive appropriate care that is courteous, considerate, timely and respectful of your diverse views, culture, gender and your right to confidentiality
  • Receive honest information in a manner that is meaningful and relevant, with an interpreter if desired, and to decline information you do not wish to have
  • Participate with the health care team in developing your treatment or care plan
  • Obtain another health care professional's opinion
  • Involve others to support you in making decisions about your care, and to have those decisions respected
  • Make choices about treatments, and be informed of the health risks and benefits of those decisions
  • Know the names and functions of the members of your health care team
  • Expect that members of your care team will collaborate to ensure continuity of care
  • Be listened to and have time to ask questions or express concerns without fear of reprisal
  • Have your questions answered and concerns addressed within a reasonable time frame.

We ask that you and/or your representative please:

  • Provide information as requested to your health care team and notify them of any changes
  • Work with your health care team to develop a treatment or care plan that addresses your needs
  • Let staff know when you do not understand any or all of the information given to you
  • Follow your treatment or care plan to the best of your availability
  • Respect others' needs for quiet and privacy, and be courteous and respectful of others
  • Respect hospital policies and act in a safe and responsible manner
  • Your feedback is valued and invited
