Respiratory Outbreak Announcement
September 8, 2026 – The North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) is reporting that a respiratory outbreak has been declared at Barrick Care Long-Term Care as of September 8, 2026.
An outbreak is declared in a hospital/long-term care setting when two confirmed positive cases are connected. The individuals who have tested positive for the respiratory virus are currently self-isolating.
NOSH update
To help contain any further spread of the virus, the Barrick Care Long-Term Care will be limiting visitors to Essential Care Partners only until further notice. An Essential Care Partner is defined as someone who provides physical, psychological and/or emotional support, that is deemed important to the resident's care by the care team in collaboration with the resident.
NOSH will also be implementing outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices and surveillance testing for affected individuals.
All residents, along with NOSH team members who work at Barrick Care Long-Term Care, will be closely monitored for symptoms.
NOSH will be working closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak and to protect our patients, residents, tenants, and team members.
