North of Superior Healthcare Group Advances McCausland Hospital Redevelopment Project

Terrace Bay, ON, March 10, 2026 — The North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) has reached an important milestone in its efforts to modernize healthcare services along the North Shore. The Ministry of Health has approved the McCausland Hospital Redevelopment Project to move forward to Stage 1.3: Functional Program under the provincial Capital Development Process.

The approval marks meaningful progress for healthcare delivery in the Terrace Bay catchment area, where the proposed redevelopment will focus primarily on expanding and modernizing the Emergency Department and enhancing key ancillary supports at The McCausland Hospital.

Stage 1.3 allows NOSH to develop a detailed Functional Program — a comprehensive planning document that outlines the clinical service needs the project aims to address, along with the space, equipment, and infrastructure required to meet those needs. This phase will also establish construction phasing plans, development timelines, and Class D cost estimates. Completion of Stage 1.3 will position the project to move into Stage 2 (detailed design to tender-ready status) and ultimately Stage 3 (tendering, award, and construction).

NOSH Board Chair, Stephen Wilson, said the approval reflects our commitment in the organization's vision of Healthy Communities by strengthening emergency care services in Terrace Bay.

“We are pleased to receive approval to advance to Stage 1.3, confirming the Ministry of Health's confidence in our plans to revitalize emergency care delivery at The McCausland Hospital,” Wilson said. “This milestone brings us one step closer to delivering a modern and efficient healthcare environment focused on the care and delivery needs of our patients, staff, and physicians.”

NOSH Chief Executive Officer, Adam Brown, emphasized the collaborative effort behind reaching this stage. He credited staff, physicians, the Patient and Family Advisory Committee, community members, and professional partners for their contributions to the redevelopment planning process.

“The guidance provided throughout this process has been invaluable in supporting us to reach this development phase,” Brown said. “We are excited to continue refining and focusing our development plans through Stage 1.3, in alignment with our 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, Superior Care Closer to Home.”

The redevelopment project is part of NOSH's broader commitment to ensuring residents across the North Shore have access to safe, modern, and high-quality healthcare services close to home. Further updates will be shared as the project advances through the next stages of planning and design.
