NOSH Receives $1.1 Million to Upgrade Emergency Backup Generator at McCausland Hospital
Terrace Bay, ON – February 10, 2026 – The North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) is pleased to announce it has received $1.1 million in one-time funding from the Ministry of Health through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) Program to support the upgrading of the emergency backup generator at McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay.
The Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding (HIRF) Program provides hospitals across Ontario with resources to address high-priority infrastructure needs, including fire safety systems, roofs, windows, and mechanical upgrades identified through the province's Facility Condition Assessment Program. This ensures hospitals remain safe, efficient, and sustainable for years to come. This year's investment will help modernize the emergency power system at McCausland Hospital, ensuring reliable support for essential services during power outages or emergency situations.
“This one-time funding from the Ministry of Health allows us to invest in critical infrastructure that protects patients, staff, and the community we serve—particularly in rural and northern settings where resiliency is vital,” said Adam Brown, CEO of NOSH. “Reliable emergency power is essential to maintaining safe, uninterrupted patient care.”
Ontario is planning to invest approximately $56 billion over the next 10 years in health infrastructure, including over $43 billion in capital grants to support hospitals and health facilities across the province. This long-term investment aims to strengthen health infrastructure so communities have access to safe, modern, and sustainable spaces for care.
“The upgraded emergency backup generator will enhance operational reliability for essential services at McCausland Hospital, including emergency care, inpatient services, and diagnostic equipment,” added Brown. “We are grateful to the Ministry of Health for its support of rural and northern healthcare infrastructure.”
NOSH's successful HIRF application reflects its ongoing commitment to responsible infrastructure planning and its vision of Healthy Communities, where residents can depend on high-quality, accessible care close to home.
