Outbreak Announcement

April 25, 2023 – The North Shore Family Health Team (NSFHT) and the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) are pleased to announce that the COVID-19 outbreak at the Wilkes Terrace Long-Term Care has been officially declared over by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit as of April 25, 2023.

However, a respiratory outbreak remains in effect until further notice.

A respiratory outbreak is declared in a hospital setting when two confirmed positive cases are connected. The individuals who have tested positive for the respiratory virus are currently in self-isolation.

NOSH Update

To help contain any further spread of the virus, the Wilkes Terrace LTC will be limiting visitation to Essential Care Partners per patient/resident until further notice. An Essential Care Partner is defined as someone who provides physical, psychological and/or emotional support, that is deemed important to the patient’s care by the care team in collaboration with the patient.

NOSH will also be implementing outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices and surveillance testing for affected individuals.

All patients, along with NOSH staff who work at Wilkes Terrace LTC, will be closely monitored for symptoms and will undergo wellness checks.

NOSH will be working closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak and to protect their patients and staff.
