Wilson Memorial General Hospital

Marathon, ON

Wilson Memorial General Hospital was constructed in 1946 as a three storey wooden building. During the year of 1966 the Hospital recognized that the existing building was inadequate to meet their needs. Plans were implemented to provide a totally new hospital at the current location.

Since its opening in 1971, Wilson Memorial General Hospital has served the communities of Marathon, Heron Bay, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg First Nation, and White River with excellent medical care. The hospital delivers health services to this catchment area of approximately 7500 people. This high quality of commitment from the medical staff and support staff make our facility first class. Their training, experience and individual skills enable this hospital to meet the challenges the future brings. Great care has been taken to provide efficient service to the public.

Wilson Memorial General Hospital held its Official Grand Opening, marking the end of its renovation project on Wednesday, October 6, 2004.

The McCausland Hospital

Terrace Bay, ON

McCausland Hospital is a fully accredited 45-bed community hospital located in Terrace Bay, Ontario.  Overlooking the shores of Lake Superior, the Hospital services a population of approximately 4,000 residents from the communities of Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Rossport, Jackfish and Pays Plat.   Named for the town's first physician, Dr. Michael McCausland, the present structure was built in 1980.  In May 2011, construction was completed on the 22-bed Long Term Care wing.  With input from the Staff and community, the wing was named Wilkes Terrace in memory of Dr. Keith Wilkes.  Dr. Wilkes was a well-respected Family Physician who dedicated more than 25 years to health care in our communities.
