Temporary Closure of the Wilson Memorial General Hospital Emergency Department

December 4, 2022 – The Emergency Department at Wilson Memorial General Hospital will be temporary closing today, December 4th from 9am – 7pm, with a scheduled re-opening on December 4th, 2022 at 7pm, due to difficulties in staffing this essential service.

The North of Superior Healthcare Group has been facing significant shortages in health human resources for the past several years, particularly in nursing.   This shortage is being felt throughout the Province and has been compounded by burn-out after 22 months of navigating the COVID-19 pandemic.  Having considered the safe and quality care requirements of our communities and having investigated all support options, we have now made the difficult decision to implement our contingency plan and announce this Emergency Department closure.

As such, during this closure, anyone requiring emergency health care should go directly to:

- Sante Manitouwadge Health – 1 Healthcare Crescent – Manitouwadge

- The McCausland Hospital – 20B Cartier Road – Terrace Bay

Or

Dial 911
