Gastrointestinal Outbreak Announcement

February 7, 2024 – Effective immediately, the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) is declaring a Gastrointestinal Outbreak at Wilson Memorial General Hospital on the Continuing Complex Care (CCC) wing.

A Gastrointestinal outbreak is declared in a hospital setting when two confirmed positive cases are connected. The individuals who have tested positive are currently in self-isolation.

NOSH update

To help contain any further spread, the Wilson Memorial General Hospital CCC wing will be limiting visitors to 2 Essential Care Partners per patient/resident until further notice. An Essential Care Partner is defined as someone who provides physical, psychological and/or emotional support, that is deemed important to the patient's care by the care team in collaboration with the patient.

NOSH will also be implementing outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices.

All patients, along with NOSH staff who work at Wilson Memorial General Hospital, will be closely monitored for symptoms.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is urging people to stay at home and refrain from visiting Wilson Memorial General Hospital CCC wing when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to those most vulnerable. The TBDHU reminds the public to prevent spreading infections by washing hands often, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water, or use an alcohol-based sanitizer and to stay home if sick to avoid spreading infections to others.

NOSH will be working closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak and to protect their patients and staff.
